Moyo Wa Africa &

Iya for Landculture & Resistance

Moyo Wa Africa is a member of Iya for LandCulture and Resistance, an international coalition of Indigenous[1] peoples and those who support Indigenous efforts to reclaim our respective lands, cultures and self-determination. Iya is committed to working towards decolonization internationally and to creating a unified movement in resistance to colonial power structures that attempt to erase Indigenous peoples. As a member group of Iya for LandCulture and Resistance, MWA is in fact a branch on the tree of a larger worldwide Indigenist movement. Iya is the network through which MWA stays connected to the struggles of other colonized peoples, and through this connection we are able to support and learn from one another, as well as to have inter-community dialogue about decolonizing our relationships. This is continuing the long-standing tradition of powerful alliances between communities, such as Africans in the diaspora and Indigenous People from Turtle Island (The Americas).

One of Iya for LandCulture and Resistance’s projects is the creation of  spaces dedicated to decolonization work. These spaces will be used to further the inter-community dialogue and collaboration as well as providing land bases for cultural reclamation and fundraising to support Indigenist initiatives.

[1] Iya defines Indigenous Peoples as those people with LandCultures: ways of life that are spiritually and economically rooted in  the land of their origin.
