Songs
of Freedom
Based
on the natural connection between the arts and the work of healing and
resistance, MWA's parent group, Iya for LandCulture and Resistance, is creating an
artists' collective called Songs of Freedom. Moyo Wa Africa will have their own branch within Songs of Freedom. SOF
will represent artists of all kinds who
are committed to using their creative work to support decolonization
work. Artists who sign with Songs
of Freedom will dedicate a portion of their earnings (determined by
the artist) to reparations funds which contribute to decolonization
projects. The artist can specify which reparations funds they would like
to contribute to and may even specify which particular projects they
would like to fund by looking in the online Indices. The artists will
also use their platform to promote Iya for LandCulture and Resistance
and its branches, such as Moyo Wa Africa. Songs of Freedom will
represent musicians, dancers, healers, teachers, writers, visual artists, actors, film-makers, directors and anyone who works
creatively to support the work of decolonization. In exchange, Songs of
Freedom will help artists to connect to one another and to find the space, resources
and the expertise needed for the creation of their work, as well as
organizing venues, events and gigs and assisting in the distribution and
promotion of the artists and their work.
